Growing up near a coastal wetland I got used to seeing wildlife on my bike rides to the beach for a surf. It became part of the surfing experience for me. At the top of the food chain, Coyotes were always a treat to spot and a cool reminder that California’s wild past wasn’t that long ago and it still exists in pockets today. I suppose thinking about the history of this area seeped into my board building later in life and influenced how I approached it. Incorporating old fashioned materials like wood into more modern designs is a way to bridge the past and the present to come up with something new and different. This Millfish model is inspired by the meeting of land and sea and the resilant coyote that calls this place home. Built in balsa Openface construction with two densities of EPS foam and balsa reinforced deck and rails. The fins are made from bookmatched redwood burl and everything in glassed in epoxy for a strong and lightweight board that will last and perform. Dimensions are 6' x 21 1/4" x 2 1/2".
